Montessori Teacher Trainer

At The Oakland Montessori Teachers Residency

The Montessori Teacher Trainer (MTT) will join our team in establishing a strong learning community for our teacher residents at our in-house training program The Oakland Montessori Teachers Residency. The MTT will focus on delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse group of adult learners who are committed to public Montessori in Oakland. All of this is in service of our mission, ensuring that every child achieves to the best of their ability.

Our vision at The Oakland Montessori Teachers Residency (OMTR), housed at Urban Montessori Charter School (UMCS), is for communities of the global majority, with a commitment to Oakland students and families, to have pathways to viable careers in public Montessori education that are typically denied to them through other avenues.

The Oakland Montessori Teachers Residency (OMTR) recognizes that teacher training is pivotal, not only for academic excellence but also for creating a teaching staff that reflects the diversity of our community. Through the OMTR, we support educators who are equipped to meet the unique needs of Oakland students and foster a sense of belonging for families of the global majority.

A strong OMTR ensures a pathway to achieving our vision at UMCS: All Oakland TK-8th grade students and families have access to high-quality, tuition-free, public Montessori programs supporting students to construct their world centered on an understanding of time and place with a vision for future liberation and peace


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement a rigorous and culturally relevant curriculum for Teacher Residents, anchored in anti-biased/anti-racist practices in alignment with MACTE accreditation requirements, and program vision and commitments.
  • Provide direct instruction using a variety of modalities in support of diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor, track, and deliver feedback on teacher resident assignments and progress through program requirements
  • Develop and implement individualized support for residents who are struggling to complete program requirements
  • Observe, coach, and develop teacher residents using knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to recruit future teacher residents, internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to establish, support, and progress monitor school-wide goals.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to design, implement, and lead professional development experiences for teacher residents and other instructional staff
  • Maintain necessary paperwork and manage updates and renewals of MACTE accreditation
  • Design, manage, and analyze multiple data streams, to identify areas of strength and problems of practice for school, teams, individuals, and self
  • Monitor, assess, and revise plans based on outcomes
  • Facilitate teams and individuals to analyze and use student and school-wide data to inform and shift classroom practice
  • Coordinate and support Resident assessment systems


Minimum Qualifications

  • Elementary 1-6 Montessori Credential - AMS or AMI - Required
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends - Required
  • Ability to coach and develop Adult Learners to best implement Montessori pedagogies and systems
  • Demonstrate effective communication through professional collaboration, coaching students, acting as liaison with families, and managing diverse teams
  • Experience with two or more of the following:
  • College or Graduate Level Instruction
  • Adult or K-12 Curriculum Development
  • Professional Learning Development and Implementation - in an educational setting
  • B.A. or B.S. required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years experience leading in schools with urban youth
  • 3-5 years experience teaching in urban schools
  • 3-5 years experience in Montessori schools


Compensation and Benefits

Compensation:

  • $90,000 - $122,000 (1.0 FTE), commensurate with Experience

  • Up to 8 paid sick days/year accrued yearly.
  • 4 days paid personal leave, accrued yearly. Unused personal leave accrues yearly.
