Montessori Coach

The Montessori Coach (MC) will join our team in establishing a strong learning community for our teachers, students, and families. The MC will focus on improving student engagement and achievement by developing a strong curricular framework, quality teachers, teams, and systems. All of this is in service of our mission, ensuring that every child achieves to the best of their ability.

Primary Responsibilities

Leader and Coordinator of School Systems

• Collaborate with Director of Instruction and Director of Student Services to develop, build action plans, coordinate, and lead the vision for a variety of school systems. May include but not limited to:
• Ensure that all students have access to full breadth of Montessori curriculum that is aligned with California Standards
• Building positive school culture and climate
• Further defining and mapping UMCS instructional anchors and practices
• Design, manage, and analyze multiple data streams, to identify areas of strength and problems of practice for school, teams, individuals, and self
• Monitor, assess, and revise plans based on outcomes
• Facilitate teams and individuals to analyze and use student and school-wide data to inform and shift practice
• Collaborate to support and monitor the progress of English language learners

Coach and Developer of Teachers and Support Staff

• Observe, coach, and develop TK-8 teaching staff utilizing knowledge of adult learning theory and in alignment with school design principles.
• Collaborate with our Director of Instruction to design, implement, and lead professional development experiences for instructional staff.
• Supervise support teachers
• Effectively manage small teams that are essential to the UMCS mission. These teams may include:
• Levels Team
• Lesson Study
• Child Study

Supporter of Students and Families

• Collaborate with the Director of Instruction and Director of Student Services in developing, implementing, communicating, evaluating, and revising a multi-tiered system of academic, behavioral and social-emotional supports enabling every student to access the services they need to achieve at their optimal rate.
• Facilitate the classroom placement process including communication with families and teachers
• Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion with families as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to coach and develop instructional staff to best implement UMCS pedagogies and systems
• Demonstrate effective communication through professional collaboration, coaching students, acting as liaison with families and managing diverse teams
• Experience with two or more of the following: instructional coaching, team facilitation, staff management, data analysis
• B.A. or B.S. required, Master’s Degree preferred
• California Elementary (Multiple Subject) Teaching Credential
• Montessori Credential at 2 level - AMS or AMI (Primary and Elementary preferred))
• 3-5 years experience leading in schools with urban youth
• 3-5 years experience teaching in urban schools
• 3-5 years experience in Montessori schools
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

This role is supervised by the Head of School.
