UPMC Hamot Magee-Women's Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join their Operating Room!

This position is full-time, Monday-Friday 6:30am-3pm

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

In this role, you will support the OR by:

• Positioning patients
• Transfer specimens to the lab.
• Turn over patient rooms/ cleaning.
• Coordinate items for surgeries.
• Transfer equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Provides patient care, assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
•  Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
• Performs UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities, including Blood glucose monitoring, Weights measurement, Vital signs monitoring, Intake and output recording, Specimen collections, Foley care.
• Performs at least four of the following tasks: Phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, Simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, Point of care testing, Bladder scan, Straight catheter, IV catheter removal.
• Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported and communicates effectively with other departments.
• Establishes professional interpersonal relationships and contributes to unit activities.
• Receives feedback constructively and identifies learning needs.
• Assists in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.
• Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction.
• May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per protocol.
• Demonstrates clear communication with the healthcare team and understanding of cultural diversity
• Supports safety in the workplace and maintains productive working relationships.
• Adheres strictly to all policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
• Documents accurately in the medical record and completes clerical tasks as needed.
• Performs according to system-wide competencies/behaviors.
• May perform advanced skills based on department needs, including Phlebotomy/venipuncture, Peripheral IV removal, Indwelling Foley catheter removal, Basic arrhythmia interpretation, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping and removal.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
