This position is full-time, Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. No holidays or weekends.

In this position, you'll work closely with a fantastic team of nurses and patient care technicians. This role provides support to the PACU by working within the recovery room. Assisting the charge nurse and assigning patients from operating room, call consults, answering phone inquiries, and providing assistance to patients when necessary.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience

Responsibilities:

• Provides patient care, including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Offers feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
• Performs UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities, including blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, intake and output measurements, specimen collections, and Foley care.
• Performs at least four of the following BU identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.
• Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported promptly to the appropriate department.
• Establishes effective communication with other departments and maintains professional interpersonal relationships.
• Participates in universal unit activities such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
• Receptive to feedback and direction, identifies learning needs, and takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
• Provides instruction to patients and families under the direction of the RN, and may apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints according to protocol.
• Communicates clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team, demonstrating understanding of cultural diversity, violence prevention, and safety procedures.
• Maintains accountability for actions, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
• Strictly adheres to all hospital policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
• Documents patient care accurately and completes department clerical functions as necessary.
• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Additionally, may achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills such as phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia interpretation, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping and removal, based on departmental needs.
