Position Summary:
Help in supervising the activities of the transportation department including staffing, training, scheduling, company policy compliance, regulatory compliance, and performance management to ensure employee well-being, consistent and prompt deliveries to customers, and a professional and safe work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the daily responsibilities of the team to ensure assignments are completed safely and promptly.
Direct involvement in the recruiting process includes reviewing resumes received via the company tracking software, interviewing, and selection process.
Provide disciplinary action to all staff as/when needed and report outcomes up to the Transportation Manager.
Aid in creating and updating work schedules to ensure proper staffing and prompt deliveries.
Administer training programs on proper work procedures, safety, customer service, company policies/procedures, and applicable regulations.
Review drivers’ logs, hours of service, and other requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Investigate accidents and keep correct records.
Follow reporting procedures on work-related injuries or illnesses.
Work in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and external customers to ensure prompt and prompt resolutions.
Monitor end dates of driver licenses and DOT physical recertifications to ensure prompt compliance.
Ensure a safe work environment of the dock and yard by monitoring cleanliness and organization.
Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and prompt report and follow-through on any issues.
Maintain flexibility with personal work schedule to ensure proper coverage of department.
May be needed to fill in for drivers or dock workers as needed.
Use Samsara as a daily tool to check driver safety and ensure that all drivers are properly logging into the Samsara system daily.
Review and provide coaching on all Samsara safety alerts on the same day as received.
Communicate any possible or late deliveries to Customer Service so they may contact the customer.
Complete end-of-shift report on trucks/trailers loaded and email out to all responsible parties.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one-year supervisory experience in a transportation setting
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations, vehicles, equipment, maintenance
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
Must have a valid driver’s license; CDL is highly preferred.
Should attend FMCSA and DOT Supervisory Training Programs to be proficient in DOT compliance and safety administration.
