Position Overview:UniVista is seeking an experienced and highly skilled mid-level Database Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our organization's databases to ensure their security, reliability, and performance. The Database Administrator will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support critical business applications and data-driven decision-making processes.
Responsibilities:
Database Design and Implementation:
  • Design, create, and modify database structures based on application requirements.
  • Ensure proper indexing, normalization, and data integrity in database designs.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize database schema for performance and scalability.
Database Maintenance and Performance:
  • Monitor and manage database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues promptly.
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, recovery, and routine updates.
  • Optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexes, and configurations.
Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and enforce security measures to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of the data.
  • Ensure databases comply with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards.
  • Manage user access and permissions to databases, following the principle of least privilege.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
  • Investigate and diagnose database-related incidents and problems.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to provide effective solutions and prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize data loss.
Data Backup and Recovery:
  • Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies for databases.
  • Test and validate backup and recovery procedures periodically to ensure data reliability.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on database performance, usage, and health for management and stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to ensure seamless integration of databases with applications.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Profile Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role, with a minimum of 5 years in managing databases of various sizes and complexities.
  • In-depth knowledge of database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server), and proficiency in database languages (SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL).
  • Strong understanding of database design principles, indexing, normalization, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Experience with database performance tuning, monitoring tools, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Solid scripting and automation skills (Python, PowerShell, etc.) for database tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams effectively.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator) are a plus.
