Job Summary

Investigate the metabolism and physiology of methanotrophs to upgrade methane into value-added industrial chemicals. Design and characterize lab-scale fermenter for high-density fermentation of methanotrophs. In addition, the researcher will genetically engineer methanotrophs for the production of value-added chemicals from methane.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory research: Investigate the metabolism and physiology of methanotrophs. Understand the metabolism of methanotrophs using transcriptomics, and metabolomics. Design and characterize lab-scale fermenters for enhanced growth of methanotrophs. Genetically engineer methanotrophs to produce value-added chemicals from methane.
  • Document results and publish papers.
  • Help mentor students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Present research at group meetings and scientific conferences.

Environmental Demands: Work in both outdoor and laboratory settings. Work outdoors may include working in hot & humid conditions. Ability to bend and stoop to obtain samples.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in biotechnology/engineering/agriculture Minimum of 3 years postdoctoral research in a relevant field of study. Experience with HPLC, GCFID, design and characterize a lab-scale fermenter for growth of methanotrophs; expertise in DNA cloning for engineering of methanotrophs; experience with CRISPR-Cas9 Genome editing of methanotrophs; specialized in transcriptomics and metabolomics approaches, and expertise in isolation, characterization, WGS analysis of methanotrophs. Additional requirements are 1-3 years of work experience in supervising and training others, experience in forming and maintaining professional relationships in an academic setting, experience in data analysis and dissemination of scientific results are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in isolation and cultivations methanotrophs, lab-scale fermenters, molecular biology, and metabolic engineering of methanotrophs.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/16/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
