The Siebel Center for Design (SCD) invites applications for a Media, Design, and Communications Manager to coordinate communications strategies; develop, review and produce content for the promotion of courses, programs, projects, events, and services provided by SCD, while maintaining SCD brand standards across all media channels.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Media and Communications Strategy

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop communications strategies that highlight storytelling and promotion of SCD activities and accomplishments
  • Design and implement creative media and communications campaigns for a broad range of audiences, including students and the campus community, alumni, corporate partners, the local community, peer institutions and more
  • Ensure all design work meets SCD and University of Illinois branding guidelines


Leadership and Coordination

  • Manage and develop a team of students to support the media and communications needs at SCD, including graphic designers, photographers, writers, web designers, media creators, and content coordinators
  • Manage production of all media and communications assignments and materials from conception to completion, ensuring work is produced on time, to budget, following guidelines, and to a high standard
  • Work with SCD team and campus partners on the development and production of media and communications pieces
  • Provide overall leadership on the development of the media and communications team, creating training materials, implementing processes, and managing staff assignments


Production and Implementation

  • Coordinate and consult with the SCD lab and equipment operations team to design materials and projects that can be completed in-house, providing experiential learning opportunities for students whenever possible
  • Work with vendors and external contractors as needed to fulfill design requests, and consult with commercial printers and other vendors regarding format and print processes to ensure that materials meet specifications
  • Manage the design, creation, maintenance, and branding of the SCD website, in collaboration with the Engineering IT Web team
  • Keep marketing collateral up-to-date using industry leading techniques by seeking out additional skills and maintain cutting edge industry knowledge
  • Oversee the Media and Communications budget and financial status, and collaborate with SCD leadership to develop annual budget requests to support the department

Other duties as assigned to support the marketing and communications efforts of SCD.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field
  • One year of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience with project administration, content coordination, and/or marketing campaign management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in visual communications, fine arts, graphic design, advertising, media, arts management, journalism, or a related field
  • Three years of professional experience in media and communications, graphic design, or related field

Appointment Information
This is a full-time civil service Marketing Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum salary is $55,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed.
