The Civil and Environmental Engineering departmentin The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Research Scientist position. This position will conduct research in support of the development, transfer, and adaptation of agile benchmarking frameworks in QSDsan (open-source software). This will include the development of QSDsan models for representative water resource recovery facilities and the development of packages in Python to support early-stage technology benchmarking and evaluation across deployment contexts in cities across the globe. Along with contributing to the development of decarbonization roadmaps for representative water resource recovery facilities.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research for the development of agile benchmarking frameworks in QSDsan for emerging technologies for wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
  • Develop open-source models for emerging technologies that contribute to the decarbonization of wastewater management.
  • Create significant written materials that include contributions to proposal writing, reporting to funding agencies, interaction with graduate students, and peer-review publications.
  • Develop QSDsan training materials for researchers and industry professionals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or related field

Experience

  • 1 Year of work on dynamic process modeling with QSDsan
  • 2 Years of experience in early-stage technology evaluation
  • 2 Years of work on dynamic process modeling of resource recovery technologies in Python


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Object-oriented programming in Python
  • Pseudo-mechanistic wastewater process modeling with sets of ordinary differential equations


APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employees hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis. The minimum salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
