Research Technician II, Molecular Biology, Cleaver LabWhy join the Molecular Biology Department?

The Molecular Biology Department at UT Southwestern mission is to conduct high-impact internationally recognized research, and to educate and train the next generation of leaders in biomedical research. The research in Molecular Biology focuses on understanding mechanisms that control normal and abnormal cell growth and differentiation during development and disease.

Job Summary

The is seeking a motivated Research Technician I. The Cleaver lab is currently working to understand how organs and tissues develop, with a focus on blood vessels. The ideal candidate would be someone with basic knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, who is willing to learn and work as a team with students and postdoctoral fellows. Applicant will be tasked with assisting daily experiments, which will include genotyping mice, tissue histology, antibody staining, microscopy, lab management, and more. We are seeking motivated individuals to engage in the research and help move lab goals forward. Good communication and documentation skills are a must.

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.
  • Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
  • High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job Duties
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
