A staff position for a Research Assistant II is available in the laboratory of in the Green Center for Reproductive Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As part of NIH's new IGVF Consortium to understand the Impact of Genomic Variation on Function, our lab has exciting projects related to understanding how genetic variants contribute to phenotypes in human development. This team science initiative by the National Human Genome Research Institute will define modern genomics for the coming decade. This position is open to motivated candidates with strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Preferred skills include 1) Strong computational, statistical, or mathematical skills; experience analyze large-scale datasets; or 2) Strong experience in molecular biology, genome engineering, and/or genomics. We seek creative and energetic individuals with a keen interest in working on a large multidisciplinary team project at the forefront of modern genomics.

This Research Assistant II position will provide higher level laboratory support for trainees and researchers in a large, dynamic basic science research laboratory. Employee will participate in the design and execution of collaborative research studies by reading literature. Must have a thorough understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology, and experience with protein purification and troubleshooting purification protocols. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, designing cloning strategies and creating new research tools for the lab, planning and executing high throughput screens, using various assays, working independently on assigned research projects and recording, organizing and evaluating data obtained for use in publications, grants, reports, or presentations. Other duties as assigned.

• Master's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year experience as Research Assistant I or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years experience to include one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent.
• Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, serology, medical technology, etc. and five (5) years experience to include one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent.
• High school graduation with courses in basic sciences and seven (7) years experience to include one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent.

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field. Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
• Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor. Assists in collection of data for project reports.
• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
