The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training. UWAC is part of the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington and incorporates faculty and staff from the UW School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education.
The Autism Center’s Seattle Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for apart-time (75% FTE) to full-time Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)/Continuing Education Specialist 2. This individual will work amongst a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, early intervention providers, medical professionals, faculty, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows.
The main function of this position will be to provide direct clinical services, training, and consultation to the community for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The position will support the Autism Center-wide policies and procedures and workload standards. The position requires the ability to handle complex and sensitive situations regarding clinic patients.
The UW Autism Center Clinical Program is the largest service provider for autism spectrum disorders in the region, and is considered a national and international leader. The clinical speech pathologist will play a key role in the UWAC.
Duties & Responsibilities
Direct clinical services and patient care activities:
• Provide speech/language/communication intervention to children with ASD including regularly assessing child's speech/language/communication progress and modify goals as needed.
• Complete initial client evaluation reports, treatment plans, progress reports, referral letters, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner (20%)
• Provide speech/language/communication evaluations to children with ASD in order to identify target goals and intervention strategies using a variety of standardized on non-standardized methods
• Provide services in individual and group settings.
• Work with clients ranging in age from infants to adults, with the bulk of services provided to preschool and school-age children.
• Comfortably administer customized treatment to children with a range of language skills and behavioral presentations.
• Develop treatment programs with the cooperation of UW and community practitioners and educators
• Provide direct consultation to families, community providers, and UWAC clinicians regarding a range of communication issues in the home and school settings to develop continuity of care
• Keep appropriate records of services provided
Administrative duties:
• Coordinate with the billing office regarding services
• Coordinate with administration and support staff to meet billable expectations
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate speech-language pathology students and Clinical Fellows when allowed depending on date of licensure
Requirements include:
• Master’s Degree in speech-language pathology, plus 1-3 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist in clinical or research setting focusing on children with ASD
• Licensure and certification in field as legally required

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Experience and interest in running social skills groups and conducting feeding therapy
• Willing to start part-time (75%FTE) and ramp up to full-time after 3-4 months.
