TheHARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER PHARMACY DEPARTMENTis looking for an outstandingFULL-TIME PHARMACY INTERNAL AUDITOR (Rotating/Variable Shifts). The Pharmacy Internal Auditor ensures the integrity of all controlled substance processes for HMC. The position monitors and evaluates the controls for the controlled substances program including, but not limited to, inventory management, system audits, appropriate documentation, compliance with HMC policies and procedures regarding controlled substances, training of Pharmacists and Technicians, and compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Strong candidates will have working knowledge of the health care environment and medical records/ Previous experience as a compliance analyst, auditor or Pharmacy compliance team leader, as well as education and/or experience in development and implementation of compliance programs is highly desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Controlled substance (CS) audits:
• Perform CS record audits.
• Monitor dispenses from pharmacy locations to receipt.
• Audit patient records from order to administration.
• Ensure appropriate documentation including wastage.
• Responsibility for the integrity of the controlled substance process from ordering of the drugs from the wholesaler, receipt and storage within the various pharmacies, distribution to the various clinical and patient care areas, and verification of administration and/or wastage.
• Continuously monitor the process for changes and modifies controls appropriately in response.
Other Responsibilities:
• Implementation and maintenance of pharmacy compliance auditing and monitoring program for controlled substances. Monitor indicators and respond to correct deficiencies and improve systems and processes.
• Monitor for and follow-up on controlled drug discrepancies. Address compliance issues as identified. Insure adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Monitor and audit compliance systems. Maintain knowledge of changing rules and regulations.
• Oversee and perform controlled substance compliance education and training of new and existing pharmacy staff.
• Perform independent verification of controlled substance perpetual inventory logs.
• Reconcile CS invoices with pharmacy receiving records.
• Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures for HMC Controlled Substance Program. With the Pharmacy Administrative staff, evaluate new technologies and software to improve inventory systems. Modify controls, policies and training appropriately to adapt to these improvements.
• Develop and test control processes for controlled substances and other pharmaceuticals to meet or exceed best practice.
• Assist the Pyxis Lead Pharmacist in researching and resolving controlled substance discrepancies. Work with nurse and clinic managers to resolve discrepancies in documentation compliance with P&P's.
• Assist the Manager for Compliance and Revenue with researching and resolving billing issues related to the pharmacy electronic billing systems (e.g. PharmNet/Etreby).
• Resolve discrepancies in allergy information in the various Pharmacy IT systems by researching and updating appropriate system.
