DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Neurological Surgery Clinic is located in the Ninth and Jefferson Building at Harborview Medical Center. It provides comprehensive assessment and management of neurological conditions, including acute vascular anomalies, brain tumors, aneurysms, movement disorders and diseases of the nervous system.
The clinic is staffed by attending physicians who evaluate patients for advanced elective procedures and diagnostic studies.
Attending physicians and neurosurgery residents evaluate post-surgical and post-trauma patients during a weekly clinic each Wednesday.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESTriage medical information in a specific medical or surgical specialtySchedule post-surgery diagnostic procedures and follow-up patient appointmentsAct as a liaison between patients, consulting physician, referring physician, or outside agency to coordinate patient appointments, admission, or surgery. Will coordinate the exchange of information either written or verbally before and after patients are seenCoordinate anesthesiaObtain all necessary medical records, diagnostic studies, pathology items, etc., that are needed for patient care.Assist in scheduling new patient appointments by triaging to appropriate department and physician.Enter appointment information in online appointment system.Coordinate pre-admission tests and procedures.Schedule and ensure pre-anesthesia works-ups are completedCoordinate the direct transfer of patients from outside hospitals to UWMC with physicians, medical staff, and Admitting.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree in a medically related or public relations fieldTwo years of experience in a tertiary patient care setting involving interaction with a variety of medical services, contact with patients and families, interaction with physicians, and proficiency in medical terminology
ORAn equivalent combination of education/experience
