The College of Education Information and Learning Technologies team has an outstanding opportunity for an Instructional Designer.
Reporting to the Lead Instructional Designer, the Instructional Designer position plays a strategic role in supporting existing online educational materials and the development of new initiatives within the college. This new Instructional Design position within the Information and Learning Technologies team will be responsible for:
Supporting the College’s faculty in the design, development, and quality control of online and hybrid courses and producing and conducting professional development workshops according to their expertise. planning and facilitating discussions related to online education. The person in this position will support new and existing courses in our Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Learning Cart, etc.) for our regular college courses, professional development, research, and other special projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support faculty in delivering their courses, collaborating with other team members as needed.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot course delivery issues and provide one-on-one support to faculty as they prepare and develop their course materials.
  • Design, maintain, and evaluate online/hybrid learning courses in collaboration with faculty, instructional designers, technologists, and other production team members.
  • Manage instructional design process for these projects and keep progress documentation and communication with customers.
  • In collaboration with faculty and other team members, develop and edit instructional and assessment materials for courses.
  • Develop a review cycle for these courses and materials.
  • Recommend pedagogical methodology for online courses, maintaining compliance and accessibility standards according to institutional policy.
  • Supports faculty in keeping content aligned with course/program goals and objectives.
  • As part of the team, develop face-to-face and online training sessions/courses for faculty and staff regarding instructional design best practices and techniques.
  • Research and provide current recommendations in trends in instructional design and online learning.
  • Serve as liaison between the team and other service groups as needed (help desk, library, other IT units, etc.)
  • Offer instructional technology support during synchronous virtual and in-person experiences.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, communications, or a related field, to include a minimum of 2 years experience in the design, development, and deployment of online courses.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical principles and application of learning theory to an online learning environment
  • Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning principles and the creation and remediation of accessible materials
  • Proficiency with Canvas Learning Management System or other learning management system
  • Knowledge of media design and development strategies and technologies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an individual contributor and member of multiple internal and external teams and organizations
  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two to three years of experience within all phases of instructional design (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation)
  • Demonstrated video editing and production skills
  • Familiarity with equity-oriented pedagogy
  • Ability to work with faculty with diverse degrees of expertise in online educational environments.
