    The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology department has an outstanding opportunity for aCLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 2 -TRAINER (FULL-TIME, EVENING-SHIFT)
    RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Maintain expertise in all functions of the Clinical Laboratory Technician duties.
  • Follow and train staff on specimen collection processes to include phlebotomy and urine collection of patients of all ages and additional specimen collection processes to include sorting and prioritize initial specimens and requests, receive specimens via pneumatic tube system and at the front receiving window. Prioritize to work effectively in a fast paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to interact with patients and patient care providers in appropriate fashion including, but not limited to handling ill and uncomfortable patients and/or difficult providers
  • Communicate escalated problems to leadership clearly, directly and in a timely manner.
  • Provide training of students and new employees.
  • Review and update the documentation supporting training activities and competencies.
  • Train and document of training students, new and current staff.
  • Ensure staff follows established departmental policies and section/division specific processes and guidelines during training and audits.
  • Audit, provide feedback to trainees.
  • Communicates with direct supervisor, staff’s supervisor and Manager of Program Operations concerning any training related needs, issues, and concerns.
  • Perform employee observations and final assessment sign off, or make recommendation of final sign off to appropriate superior at conclusion of initial training or recurring competency assessments in the designated area.
  • Assists in maintaining complete, accurate, legible records of trainees during training and audits.
  • Support service and UW Medicine goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as: participating in problem solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to special projects and committees as assigned.
  • Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationships between the laboratory and other departments.
  • Perform other duties of a CLT1 and CLT 2.
    REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience
    OR
  • Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
    OR
  • Equivalent education/experience.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy course, or
  • Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy (MA-P) certification with the WA State Department of Health;
    *If the candidate does not have an MA-P, they will be required to complete an in-house training program. As a condition of employment, the MA-P must be obtained within 90 days of the start date.
    DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associates or bachelor degree in science
  • Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory setting
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHRs) information systems
  • Experience with laboratory information system (LIS)
  • Experience in training others
