Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose
The Staff Psychiatrist is a member of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team of licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and psychology trainees in collaboration with Student Health Services (SHS). Together, this team practices in the unique environment of college health and directly contributes to student success by delivering integrated mental healthcare to all Pacific students utilizing the services of wellness centers across our three campuses (Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco). The Staff Psychiatrist provides the highest quality of mental health services to students while supporting the vision of the University to make student learning a central goal by facilitating the psychiatric well-being of the student body. The Staff Psychiatrist may have the opportunity to supervise psychiatric residents in their 4th year of training.
Partial remote work will also be available; this position is primarily located on the Stockton campus.
Essential Functions
  1. Conduct psychiatric assessment and medication management to students by meeting with them individually to evaluation. Assure continuous and ongoing quality, accessibility, and safety of psychiatric services to students.
  2. Diagnose psychiatric conditions according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR).
  3. Establish, diagnose, and document the treatment plan and prognosis using the Counseling Center Electronic Record System, Titanium Schedule.
  4. Review patients' records and files to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered.
  5. Update and maintain patients' medical records.
  6. Maintain current, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, medical ethics, and CAPS and SHS policies.
  7. Assist in emergency management and crisis response services to students in collaboration with CAPS staff.
  8. Liaison with community mental health providers, hospitals, and other resources, as related to the psychiatric care of students.
  9. Cooperate and collaborate with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to the differences in care requirements for adolescents and young adults.
  11. Provide health education related to promoting client self-care and psychological health.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of all client information at all times.
  13. Utilize effective communication techniques with students, faculty, staff, parents, family members, and concerned others to promote good, quality client/patient care, when appropriate.
  14. Collaborate and appropriately consult with CAPS and SHS providers to provide care to students.
  15. Serve on university-wide committees as appropriate.
  16. Provide psychoeducational outreach programming to the campus community.
  17. Maintain memberships in Professional Organizations as appropriate.
  18. Remain knowledgeable of best practices in the field of psychiatry and university counseling centers (UCCs) while staying abreast of the latest trends in the field.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Medical Degree from an accredited medical school program.
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program.
  • Current California medical license.
  • Two (2) years of experience providing outpatient psychiatric care.
  • Prior experience address the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated competence in use of best practices for diagnostic evaluation and psychopharmacological treatment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board eligibility or certification in psychiatry.
  • Three (3) years of experience providing outpatient psychiatric care.
  • Experience providing outpatient psychiatric care in a college or university setting.
  • Strong experience working with a diverse population and a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Strong interest in working with university-age patients.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment.
  • Ability to teach in an informal workshop setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated through the ability to establish and maintain effective working with other departments within the university.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
Physical Requirements

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in clinical or office environment, with some outreach performed outdoors or on other campuses. Work is generally performed during standard business hours. May be required to work non-business hours. Moderate travel, including possible travel to the Sacramento and San Francisco campuses as needed.
Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University's insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $140,000.00-$150,000.00 annually. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
