Salary
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours per Week

Essential Functions
The Head of Digital Preservation and Stewardship is responsible for leading the creation, implementation, and ongoing execution of policies, procedures, and workflows to collectively preserve the born-digital and digitized collections of the UTSA Libraries by administering and advancing a robust digital preservation program. This position collaborates with University and Libraries stakeholders to align preservation efforts with access to this content to ensure efficient and complementary processes and policies between them.
  • Manage development and implementation of the digital preservation system and develop strategies for technical improvements and expansion. Develop and implement policies, guidelines, and best practices to ensure the long-term preservation of UTSA Libraries' digital assets, including audiovisual, digitized and born-digital materials.
  • Lead the Libraries' Digital Stewardship Governance Group and its efforts to create and maintain policies and procedures for digital access and preservation. Serve as a liaison among Special Collections, Digital Humanities workgroup(s), and other relevant units and stakeholders to align preservation efforts with the Libraries' digital access projects to ensure compatible and efficient processes are in place.
  • Coordinate preservation workflows in the relevant departments/units/areas so that data is ingested to the digital preservation system in a manner consistent with national and/or international standards or best practices demonstrated in similar archival systems at peer institutions. Educate staff on digital preservation practice, including guidance on preservation formats, metadata, and preparing digital content for long-term preservation. Liaise with campus partners on digital preservation strategies and implementations. Coordinate with Systems staff and other stakeholders on the development and implementation of systems supporting digital stewardship.
  • Supervise the work of A&P and classified staff engaged in digital stewardship activities, including creation of metadata, digitization, preparation, and ingest of files to the preservation system, digital management systems, and access platforms. Plan, coordinate and implement workflows for digitization, including quality control procedures, prioritization of projects, and methods for access.
  • Maintain flexibility and awareness of changes in the department and organization and contribute to the team effort by assuming other similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
MLS, MLIS, MSI, or MSLS from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Four or more years' experience managing and implementing a digital preservation program and operations based on relevant standards, best practices, and investigation of emerging trends in academic libraries.
  • Experience supervising and directing the work of staff and students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preservation challenges and solutions in academic libraries.
  • Working proficiency with current tools, methodologies, and best practices for managing the long-term preservation of digitized and born-digital materials.
  • Knowledge of metadata best practices, as related to preservation and digital stewardship.
  • Experience with open source and proprietary tools, software, and platforms used for digital asset storage, management, and access.
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Aptitude for learning new tools and technologies.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, accessibility, equity, and inclusion in the workplace or community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of trusted digital repositories and related standards.
  • Experience with digital archives processing and preservation of born-digital materials, including knowledge of digital forensics tools and workflows.
  • Knowledge of digitization workflows, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience with digital preservation storage solutions, including tape archives and/or cloud storage.
  • Experience working with information technology staff on developing functional specifications and/or implementing projects or services.
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects or initiatives that span organizational departments and divisions.
  • Experience working effectively with external partners, including vendors.
Working Conditions
This position will be primarily located:
Hybrid-Regularly: This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
