This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.

This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel generally limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

Purpose

The Data QA Engineer for the UT Data Hub improves university outcomes and advances the UT mission to transform lives for the benefit of society by increasing the usability and value of institutional data.

The Data QA Engineer works closely with other team members to design and implement solutions focused on validation of data within an AWS-based cloud data platform. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accuracy, integrity, and reliability of data within dimensional data models. This role demands a detail-oriented and analytical individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about maintaining high data quality standards.

Responsibilities

Data Validation and Testing:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate data within AWS-based cloud data warehouse.
  • Conduct thorough testing of ETL processes, dimensional data models, and reporting outputs.
  • Identify, document, and track data quality issues, working closely with data engineers to resolve them.
  • Validate data loading, transformation, and aggregation processes.
  • Ensure data consistency and integrity across different data sources and systems.

Quality Assurance and Process Improvement:

  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to define quality benchmarks and metrics.
  • Continuously improve QA testing strategies and methodologies.
  • Implement best practices for data validation and error handling.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of data quality assurance tools and frameworks.

Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Work closely with data architect, data modelers, engineers, and analysts to understand data requirements and deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Lead Data QA Engineer to design, develop, maintain and support testing infrastructure
  • Provide detailed reports on data quality findings and testing outcomes.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations to enhance data quality and processing efficiency.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience, with two years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in data/software quality assurance with hands-on experience with automated testing tools.
  • Proven experience in programming in SQL, Python, or other programming languages applicable to this context.
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes. Strong experience with relational databases such as Postgres, Oracle, etc.
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Team player, comfortable communicating cross-functionally and across management levels.
  • Self-motivated and able to organize work independently in a rapidly changing environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in test automation in a CI/CD environment.
  • AWS certification. Experience with Informatica.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (Kanban, Scrum). Experience with issue tracking systems (JIRA).
Salary Range

$105,000 - $120,000

  • Up to 100% remote at employee discretion with office work environment also an option. Majority of team is located in Austin, TX, and working remotely with infrequent in-office presence.
