Job Details:

Purpose

This position is responsible for providing Oncology services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients in the outpatient setting. The APP will work closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. APPs will assist with research, quality improvement projects in the clinic including maintaining database andfollow-up with patients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient evaluations and appropriately triage specialty care as needed. Provide quality care and conduct diagnostic testing for patients by following evidence-based clinical care pathways. Assesses/respects patient values and preferences regarding care decisions, level of involvement in decision making and care planning, and engagement of family/caregivers in decision making and planning. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of education to patient, requesting permissions, and communication style. Provides care that is patient and family-centered, compassionate, appropriate and effective for promotion of health and vitality, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease throughout the lifespan

  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance audits and provide real-time feedback to improve patient care. Collaboratively contribute to the team to maximize performance, quality, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement. Contribute to and participate in performance improvement activities as needed.

  • Servers as an advocate for patients and family/caregivers in navigating the health care system as needed. Facilitates consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the SWAT team. Promotes mutual respect and trust working within a team-based model.

  • Support and participate in research initiatives within the clinic. Uses evidence-based medicine to systematically analyze and improve care that is both patient and family-centered, compassionate, appropriate and effective for promotion of health and vitality, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease throughout the lifespan practices.

  • New responsibilities may be assigned depending on clinical needs, after discussions with the APPs within their regulatory scope. APP may be asked to manage clinical work flow and delegate appropriately to RN and MA staff.

Required Qualifications

Currently licensed and certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant and in good standing. Graduate of licensed and accredited nursing or physician assistant's school. National Board Certification required. Current CPR certification. At least two (2) years of experience in an oncology clinical practice. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Must be comfortable and flexible with changing priorities and self-directed problem solving.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Nursing, science or equivalent degree and five (5) or more years of experience in an outpatient clinical practice. Oncology experience. Experience with research activities. Working knowledge of and/or experience with Value-Based Healthcare Delivery models.

Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency using Athena electronic medical records. Experience tracking, measuring, and using patient reported outcomes in developing treatment plans for patients. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Salary Range

$120,000 depending on qualifications

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
