Job Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Student Service Center Director, the Program Manager implements the programs, services and initiatives related to the center’s strategic retention plan for the College of Engineering’s undergraduate student population. The person in this role will manage the day-to-day operations of the ESSC which includes the management of the center’s budgetary expenditures. Additionally, the ESSC Program Manager manages the supporting operations for each student retention program, service and initiative as assigned to them by the ESSC Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Retention Program Management and Implementation:
    • Collaborates with CoE staff, faculty and other university units to manage logistics for the successful execution of all ESSC student retention programs, initiatives and services.
  • Retention Program Development and Planning:
    • Utilizes university, CoE, ESSC and other related data to conduct on-going needs analysis identifying opportunities to build retention programs that will advance the academic, career, mentoring and leadership development of undergraduate students across all CoE departments.
    • Develops an operational plan of action for each program.
  • Assessment and Evaluation of Student Retention Initiatives:
    • In collaboration with the ESSC Director, develops measurable retention program targets and other indicators of student success.
    • Identifies, vets and utilizes appropriate tools to measure each program target.
    • Modifies & adjusts program action plans as necessary to increase the likelihood of meeting programs’ objectives.
  • ESSC Programs Marketing & Communications:
    • Partners with the CoE Marketing and Communication Team and other CoE and university entities to develop strategic communications and marketing campaigns to promote ESSC programs, services and special initiatives.
    • In consultation with the CoE Marketing and Communications Team, manages the ESSC website and social media content.
  • Development and Training of Graduate Assistants:
    • Trains and mentors graduate student workers who will assist with the implementation & assessment of programs, initiatives and services that will position CoE undergraduates for success upon graduation.
  • CoE K12 Outreach Initiative Support:
    • In collaboration with the CoE Assistant Dean, Student Affairs and the ESC Director, supports the operations and implementation of summer camps targeted towards K12 students interested in engineering careers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with three (3) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree with five (5) or more years of professional higher education experience with a concentration in college student development & retention or a related field.
  • Passion for student success and commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Previous experience in student success program design, assessment and management.
  • Professional knowledge of undergraduate student retention practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods in education.
  • Proficiency with student information and course management systems such as Canvas.
  • Experience with data systems used to promote undergraduate retention such as SAS or UAB.
  • Proficiency with managing program/office budgets.
  • Knowledge of higher education retention and student engagement theories and techniques.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a fast-paced office to provide services upon demand and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Professional customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional evening and/or weekend programming.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Professional presentation, interpersonal, oral & written communication skills with ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and colleagues.

Other Requirements
Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code. A criminal background check will be conducted.
