Job Purpose:
The Web Developer works as a member of the University Marketing Communications team and works collaboratively with departments and constituencies across campus to create and maintain effective and engaging web user experiences.
This position is charged with the development, testing and maintenance of the University's public-facing websites, web integrations with software and services, and assisting in the administration of the University's content management system.
Essential Duties:
  • Responsible for front end and back-end development of web-based creative elements, applications, and templates within the university content management system, and in alignment with campus branding guidelines
  • Develop effective and engaging user interfaces and user experiences using a variety of web technologies
  • Serve as the University expert in the content management system, prepare documentation of customizations as well as standard features as necessary, and troubleshoot technical issues sitewide
  • Continuously optimize quality assurance and search engine ranking in coordination with the University Web Content Specialist
  • Create and maintain web integrations between the university website and various applications, including but not limited to customer relationship management (CRM) systems, calendaring systems, catalog, social networks, learning management systems, and others
  • Work with the Director of Marketing Communications and Web Content Strategist in the execution and implementation of outsourced web design and/or development projects
  • Proactively communicate with internal clients on job status and follow all projects through to completion to the satisfaction of internal clients
  • Ensure all web functions and code is compliant with various accessibility and privacy laws, including WCAG standards
  • Maintain fluency in industry best practices, standards, tools and techniques for site development and optimization through continuous personal and professional development
Additional Skills Required:
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Proficient understanding of XML and JSON structures.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.
  • Ability to read and ensure feasibility of UI/ UX/ design documents such as screen layouts, user interface elements, and prototypes.
  • Knowledge of web standards and ability to identify and remedy web accessibility issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external developers and designers, working within a style guide.
  • Experience working with Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console, etc.
  • Motivation to stay abreast of current coding practices and make continuous improvements on work.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects, use time management, prioritization skills, and independent judgment.
  • Must possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical users to successfully execute projects.
  • Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, mathematics, or related field
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing and developing websites within an enterprise-level content management system, Hannon Hill Cascade CMS preferred
Schedule/Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional hours as required.
