Job Summary:
The Assistant Director for Social Justice and Solidarity in Action supports the University
Ministry (UM) University Ministry social justice, tutoring, Solidarity-in-Action, Ignatian
Solidarity Network programs, and other activities related to direct service, education and
advocacy for social justice and reconciliation. The assistant director serves as a
university-wide resource on community engagement and social justice initiatives for
students, faculty, and staff at USF. The position works in collaboration with other
assistant and associate directors and reports to the director of University Ministry.
Full Job Description:
Responsibilities
  • Direct the development and coordination of solidarity in action programs for students in the local community that foster social responsibility, volunteerism, and solidarity with the poor.
    • Lead community initiatives with partners; ALAS, SIREN, Faithful Fools, St. James, St. Peters, St. Anthony's and ICA schools, etc.;
    • Night Ministry, Social Justice Clubs: Food Recovery Network, group to support;
    • Collaborate with Research Scholar/Graduate Assistant to develop program evaluation and reflection.
    • Outreach to community organizations for additional opportunities for students to interact with the community.
  • Oversees the direction and implementation of the University Ministry Tutoring Program:
    • Direct the graduate student staff (2) in charge of the tutoring program;
    • Support the undergraduate students in developing and promoting education, critical analysis and agency.
    • Oversee education fellowship graduate student(s) in conducting assessment of program goals and outcomes and reporting to the foundation and development team.
    • Collaborate with the Development team in grant proposal renewals and interfacing with donors.
    • Research potential grants, donors, and other funding sources for the program.
  • Supervise and mentor Resident Ministers (RMs) assigned to SJ program area; solidarity in action programs, advocacy, social justice events and days of service.
  • Hire, train, supervise and support graduate and undergraduate student support staff.
  • Maintain communication and foster collaboration within UM, with USF departments and divisions as well as community partners, national and international organizations and networks.
    • Support Campus Climate initiatives, as well as student, staff, and faculty by fostering community building and reconciliation efforts.
    - Lead Initiatives with campus partners - School of Education, Athletics, DECO, Student Life, etc.
  • Ensure an integrated and coordinated strategy for community engagement programs through the UM office that are in concert with the University institutional learning outcomes and UM office goals.
    • Support the integration of the Universal Apostolic Preferences to local and global programs.
  • Develop and oversee UM initiatives that support undocumented, mixed-status, TPS communities through the Working Group or DREAM center entity.
  • Oversee the response to all inquiries to the office for requests for volunteers and program partnerships.
  • Work collaboratively with local Jesuit parishes on social justice efforts.
  • Lead research, development, and implementation of new programs and initiatives in the areas of social justice and advocacy.
    • Exploring partnerships with community organizations and corporate partnerships.
  • Plan and manage program budgets (2.5), pay invoices and expenses through Concur, develop project goals/objectives, and annual reports.
    - Social Justice programming and Tutoring programming, as well as co- manage pay invoices and expenses for immersion programming.
  • Serve on and support university committees as assigned.
    • USF Food Pantry, Working Group to Support Undocumented Students, University Council for Community Engagement, ISN National Advisory Council, End of the Year Ceremonies, First-Year Programs and Family Engagement, Muscat Scholars Program.

Requirements
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in religious studies, theology, social justice, education, or related field. Previous successful experiences in planning prayer services or liturgies.
  • Commitment to and 3-5 years experience in social justice movements, social change theory, global solidarity, and student leadership development.
  • Previous experience in youth or university campus ministry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in spiritual direction, pastoral counseling, faith development, developmental psychology, spirituality, and knowledge of different religious traditions.
  • Experience and familiarity with Ignatian spirituality, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, the tradition of Jesuit education preferred, and critical race theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an urban, multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and advise individual students and student groups.
  • Experience conducting training and leadership development workshops.
  • Experience in budget planning and maintenance.
  • Experience with producing publications and websites.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience in student orientation at a private institution is preferred.
  • Commitment to creating relationships across the University to develop collaborative programs and services.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
