The Director of the Career Development Center provides leadership, direction, staff supervision, and direct service for USJ students as they develop and pursue their career plans.

The Director of Career Development is responsible for forging, developing, and maintaining partnerships with a wide variety of employers in order to provide students with internship opportunities, professional skill development, job placement, and mentorship. As a member of numerous University committees, this individual, in collaboration with the faculty and various campus offices, develops and implements initiatives and programs in order to meet the needs of students and increase student success

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Manages the Career Development department in its daily operations. Supervises staff; delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate; modifies short- and long-term goals as needed.
  • Works closely with Academic Advising center to offer seamless support services.
  • Coordinates efforts for retention with other departments such as Admissions, Center for Academic Excellence, Registrar, and Academic Advisement.
  • Provide oversight for the undergraduate on-campus student employment program as part of the comprehensive pre-professional experiential program for students.
  • Develops dynamic workshop series and other programming for students exploring career possibilities.
  • Networks with alumni; builds programs and partnerships between alumni and students.
  • In conjunction with Registrar and Information Technology staff, develops, implements and maintains effective and efficient technology systems, including appointment data tracking.
  • Coordinates and oversees efforts to build partnerships with local employers.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive internship database for student use.
  • Prepares and recommends department budget to the Provost and allocates funds appropriately.
  • Responds to community and campus needs/requests for programs regarding recruitment, retention and/or programs preparing students for professional careers.
  • Serves on relevant campus committees in a cooperative effort to improve retention and meet the diverse needs of today's University students, including individual career development plans.
Job Requirements:


Education & Experience

  • Master's degree minimum in counseling, student development, educational leadership or related discipline.
    Five to ten years previous experience in leadership in career development or related field, preferred.
    Experience managing staff and resources. effectively manage staff and resources.

Other Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical thinking and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in offices across the University and in external organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents.
  • Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work with modern technologies including social media and networking sites such as LinkedIn. Familiarity with specific applications used by the University a plus.
  • Ability to develop, implement and assess educational programs for both students and faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially, balance and prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects, problem solve and offer secretarial support to more than one person
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills; ability to manage changing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, customer service environment with patience, flexibility and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and appropriately handle matters of a confidential nature
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the College professionally to the public
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and employee population

  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, as noted below, with or without reasonable accommodation
