POSITION TITLE: Part-Time (Half-Time) Faculty

DEPARTMENT: Diagnostic Medical Sonography

POSITION STATUS: Half Time (12-month)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program Director, faculty receive a contract or letter of appointment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement, and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings in coordination with established course and program objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Teaching & Related Activities

The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities – See USF Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to:

  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map.
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review.
  • Effectively communicate with the Program Director.
  • Assist with evaluation of adjunct faculty members.
  • Maintain effective communication both verbally, in writing, and electronically with students, faculty, clinical agencies, and health care professionals for use in program research, assessment of students’ performance, coordination of clinical educational experiences, and overall effectiveness of department.
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly.
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession.
  • Teach students using appropriate methodologies to facilitate student classroom, laboratory and/or clinical learning experiences.
  • Create an effective learning environment for students.
  • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students.
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress.
  • Evaluate student laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success.
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance.
  • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical/laboratory evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes documenting student progress.
  • Assist Program Director as assigned.

Responsibilities may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Program Director and Dean.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Minimum of an associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current registration in general or vascular concentrations by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, multiple registries preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years clinical experience as registered sonographer required.
  • Experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques preferred.

Requirements for all College of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction:

  • Current TB testing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization.
  • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
