Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Occupational Safety Specialist implements, manages, and monitors safety programs, policies and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the University's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safe guards and solutions. Ensure compliance with all current safety regulations. Works independently to promote the Occupational Safety Unit's overall mission by evaluating and minimizing risk associated with the University of Rochester operations including but not limited to the Hospital, Medical Center and River Campus
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other physical Science, Safety Technology, or equivalent work-related experience required. Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in an academic, industrial or hospital environment performing hazard assessments, safety inspection, or managing safety programs required. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to work independently or in a team environment; Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite; Strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills; Able to interact on a professional level with the University community, including faculty, staff, Principal Investigators and medical professionals; Must have own transportation with current registration and valid driver's license; Ability to wear respiratory protection; Be available for emergency response as part of EH&S Spill Team. Ability to become a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required; Required to maintain Professional Development and Certifications (if applicable).

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 68,400 - $102,600 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
