Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Supports library services for patients, families, and staff at the Golisano Children's Hospital, Mucci Family Resource Library. Under the direction of the Pediatrics & Family Resource Librarian, performs day-to-day tasks in library circulation and reference services. Staffs the library service desk when librarian is performing other duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinates day-to-day in-person operations for the Golisano Children's Hospital Mucci Family Resource Library, including: greeting pediatric patients and their families; orienting them to the library space and policies; maintaining the physical appearance of the library (pushing in chairs, light cleaning, etc.); recording daily usage statistics; performing duties associated with the opening and/or closing of the library; developing seasonal and thematic books displays; assisting customers with scanning, printing, photocopying, faxing, basic PC usage, and internet access; maintaining HIPPA compliance and infection prevention procedures in a patient care setting
• Supports reference services by answering questions received in person, by phone, email, or web chat about library materials, reference inquires, collections, and services and monitoring customer feedback and trends in children's literature to make collection development recommendations
• Performs circulation duties, including: checking library materials in and out; delivering library materials to pediatric inpatient rooms; coordinating library book drop emptying, book sanitization, and reshelving; categorizing and labeling new books; checking in magazine deliveries
• Assists with inventory control management, including: sorting and evaluating book donations; tracking book donations; monitoring book stock and supplies inventory
• Contributes to University library operations by serving on appropriate committees or groups within Miner Libraries, the University of Rochester Libraries, and/or Golisano Children's Hospital; attending department, committee, and general staff meetings; participating in workshops and training sessions

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Two years of post-high school education required;
• Relevant college degree preferred.
• 3-4 years' work experience required;
• or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• 2 years' experience working with children a library or school setting, or other relevant children's services experience required
• Passion for engaging with children and families required
• Strong desire to welcome a diverse community of families and support an inclusive library collection required
• Confidence in problem solving and strong communication skills with all levels of the organization, from members of the public to hospital staff and administrators required
• Ability to prioritize tasks and projects with minimum direct supervision required
• Ability to set and adjust priorities required
• Punctual, dependable, and able to represent the library and the Golisano Children's Hospital in a positive manner required
• Familiarity with and excitement about children's and/or teens' literature
