SUMMARY:

The Assistant Marketing and Design Manager will help foster the expansion of campus and community participation with Modlin Center for the Arts through the consistent development and implementation of visual messaging, social and digital media, and other channels of marketing and communications. This position will support marketing and communications for the Modlin Center for the Arts, to enhance the profile of Modlin and of the arts at the University of Richmond, and share the experience and impact of Modlin Center performances, engagements, and partnerships. The Assistant Marketing and Design Manager will support the marketing needs of the Modlin Center for the Arts and the theatre and dance and music departments within the School of Arts & Sciences (A&S), and help coordinate. marketing and communications with the School of Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office and University Communications to ensure consistent strategies. The Assistant Marketing and Design Manager is a full-time position that reports to Modlin’s Marketing and Strategic Communications Manager. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing and Graphic Design 

Responsible for the layout and/or design of Modlin Center materials, including but not limited to:

  • Print and digital advertisements
  • Print and digital signage (dflyers)
  • Event-specific marketing materials and email campaigns
  • Event programs in print and digital formats
  • Monthly electronic newsletters
  • Other Modlin Center publicity or event advertising materials as needed
  • Periodic Modlin Center activity reports
  • Lead in managing social media dashboard

Additional responsibilities and goals:

  • Create/edit/design, proof, schedule, share and respond to social media posts and community
  • Work to build engagement, provide context and points of interest about work/artists being presented
  • Develop community relationships to Modlin, in person and online
  • Leverage the networks of artists and community partners to expand and deepen Modlin’s social reach
  • Boost the reach of the academic departments’ social media
  • Drive traffic to the website
  • Improve the user experience on our website and in our venues
  • Support ticket sales

Communications 

Help create, manage, and maintain a content calendar that will support the timely completion of:

  • Contacting artists and management companies for information for event programs, promotions, press releases, and engagement outreach materials
  • Production season in brochure form, in the ticketing platform (Tessitura) and on the website
  • Submissions to local/regional events calendars
  • Traditional and digital advertising
  • Email marketing
  • Print and digital signage (dflyers)
  • Internal communications
  • Regular review and update of all online listing information
  • Maintenance and review of marketing and mailing lists, and updates to constituent data in Tessitura

Assist in writing, formatting, proofing, and editing Modlin Center materials (following the University style guide), including but not limited to:

  • Season brochure and event programs
  • Email marketing, including event-specific eblasts, monthly e-newsletters, pre-show ticketholder emails
  • Press Releases (season announcement, event-specific, and others as needed), in coordination with University and A&S Communications teams
  • Radio advertising spots
  • Other marketing materials as needed

Support box office manager and student staff with communications that:

  • Foster a welcoming patron experience for the campus and broader community
  • Ensure timely updates and sharing of event information and performance details
  • Provide invitations for and avenues to engagement with the arts

Maintain effective communications within Modlin Center including resident academic partners: Department of Theatre & Dance, Department of Music, as well as the Department of Art & Art History, University Museums and Parsons Music Library.

Academic Marketing and Communications Support 

Assist and support the marketing and communications for academic units within the Modlin Center for the Arts to include but not limited to:

  • Print and digital signage (dflyers)
  • Event-specific marketing materials and email campaigns
  • Event programs in print and digital formats
  • Monthly electronic newsletters
  • Brochures and event programs

Supervisory Role
Will supervise student assistants with creation of marketing materials and social media posts, and other staff and outside vendors as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with and understanding of the performing and visual arts and related terminology.
  • Must possess strong communication and language skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills and proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Marketing experience including the ability to develop and design creative campaigns.
  • Demonstrated understanding of brand management and voice.
  • Strong knowledge of effective social media practices, analytics, and creative ways of engaging new and existing audiences.
  • Ability to manage the diverse needs of the Center's clients and stakeholders with diplomacy and respect.
  • Ability to approach challenging situations with enthusiasm, humor, and kindness.
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in marketing, performing arts management, or related field.
    Experience with CRM or ticketing platforms preferred.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week 
  • Position will require occasional evening and weekend duties in support of Modlin events

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $18.79 to $24.90 per hour)
