The University of Northern Iowa's School of Music seeks internal applications for the position of Director. The Director provides leadership and advocacy for the quality, status, and reputation of the School and its faculty, staff and students; encourages excellence in teaching, creative activities, research and service; promotes undergraduate and graduate programs; evaluates faculty and staff; recommends promotion and tenure of faculty; responds to the concerns, needs, and suggestions of faculty, staff, and students; serves as a liaison with internal and external constituencies (other academic departments and institutions, community partners, prospective students, donors, alumni); promotes intellectual and cultural pluralism and demonstrates a commitment to equity and affirmative action; and performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Doctorate degree in an area represented in the School of Music required.
Tenure and the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the School of Music required. Additional requirements include a record of the following effective teaching, research and/or creative activity, and service; outstanding interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities; understanding and support of the diverse and interrelated areas that comprise the School; commitment to creative problem solving, collaborative decision making, and equitable mediation; demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups; ability to articulate a vision for the School's direction; and academic leadership experience with both departmental infrastructure and programs impacting cross-campus and community constituencies.
