SUMMARY: Responsible for the direction and maintenance of safety, environmental, health, and quality standards within the business unit in accordance with company and regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the development, management and implementation of company safety, health, quality, and environmental management systems aboard the vessels.

Lead a team to ensure the business and vessels maintain compliance, effectiveness and efficiency of operational practices, processes, and procedures.

Conduct vessel safety assessments to ensure a positive safety culture, and vessel compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.

Ensure the continual improvement of safety aboard vessels by reviewing incident investigations.Develop, review, revise and edit business unit vessel handbooks/manuals for quality, regulatory accuracy, adherence to company policy and customer expectations.

Maintain and issues revisions to ISM controlled documents.

Review regulatory changes to identify gaps and analyze the impacts to the safety, quality, and environmental programs.

Ensure the overall continual improvement of all processes in the management system.

Act as designated person under the requirements of the ISM Code and/or Company Security Officer under the ISPS Code for both US and foreign flagged vessels, when necessary.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in nautical science, marine transportation, marine engineering, or a related field; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education with Maritime experience.

EXPERIENCE: 10 years marine operations experience preferably within safety, health, quality and/or environmental management.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment. Ability to gather, interpret, report and/or edit information. Ability to interpret complex data and make sound decisions. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to function effectively with, or as part of, a team. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop changes or alternatives. Ability to manage customer relationships to achieve specific SHQE KPIs. Knowledge of federal and state marine safety, health and environmental regulations. Knowledge of training methodology and the ability to develop and provide technical/operational training to others.

JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
