Position Summary

The UNM Department of Pediatrics Sectionfor Child Safety & Well-Being is seeking to hire a Program Specialist whois highly motivated and detail-oriented, and who has the ability to adapt tochange. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supportinginitiatives aimed at improving the safety and well-being of New Mexico’schildren and families. The Program Specialist will join the UNM Child Health GrandChallenge team that aims to prevent child maltreatment in New Mexico throughscience. Working in close collaboration with stakeholders from various sectors,the Program Specialist will contribute to the design, implementation, andevaluation of projects focused on enhancing child safety, preventing childmaltreatment, and promoting positive outcomes for children and families acrossNew Mexico.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinatesand supports the implementation of projects aimed at improving child safety andwell-being, including organizing meetings, managing timelines, and facilitatingcommunication among project stakeholders.
  2. Conductsliterature reviews, data collection, and analysis to inform program developmentand evaluation efforts. Collaborates with researchers and evaluators to measurethe impact of interventions and identify best practices.
  3. Builds andmaintains relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies,community organizations, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups. Facilitatescollaboration and partnerships to maximize the reach and effectiveness ofprogram initiatives.
  4. Developscontent for program materials, reports, and presentations to communicateprogram goals, activities, and outcomes to diverse audiences. Engages with UNMMarketing to raise awareness of child safety issues and mobilize support forprogram initiatives - this includes two awareness events held annually.
  5. Ensurescompliance with grant guidelines and deadlines, and provides accurate andtimely reporting on program activities and outcomes.

Conditions of Employment
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience working in child welfare, child advocacy, or related fields, with knowledge of best practices and current issues in child safety and well-being.
  2. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and convey complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
  4. Proficiency in research methods and data analysis techniques
  5. Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and diversity, with an understanding of the intersectionality of factors that influence child outcomes.
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
