Position Summary | The Program Coordinator for the Cancer Center Research Administration (CCRA) Shared Resources and Facilities team is an important position with a broad spectrum of responsibilities within the Cancer Research Facility (CRF). The Program Coordinator must pay attention to detail as they will oversee all iLabs requests for account set up and be the main contact for all the billing from the Shared Resources. In this position, he/she will be required to use business customer service etiquette first to the labs/staff/students and investigators that they service as well as develop interrelationships with grant managers both in the CCRA as well as other departments to ensure proper PR set up within iLabs for all the investigators using our Shared Resources. They will work closely with technical directors from the Shared Resources to verify usage and appropriate monthly billing. They will also work closely with UNMCCC Fiscal to ensure that all invoices are paid in full and within a timely manner from the appropriate indices. Thus, it is preferred that the candidate have some accounting/financial experience. In addition, the Program Coordinator will be the resident expert on all aspects of iLabs and therefore also need to provide training to users of iLabs and to any staff needing access to the software. This job also requires an extreme amount of organization and record keeping both electronically as well as in hard copy paper files since this position oversees documentation pertaining to all the revenue for all of the Shared Resources in the UNMCCC. The Program Coordinator will need to work well in a team as well as independently in order to maintain the daily operations in the CRF with regards to service contracts for common equipment, general maintenance of the facility, upkeep of shared goods such as dry ice, LN2 and santization amenities, inventory tagging and surplus, upkeep of the signage, directories, email lists, phone lists, FAMIS, parking spaces, conference room reservations, mail and package delivery. Since this position works closely with laboratory equipment and may need to provide training on common equpiment, a background in science or previous work in a lab is preferred. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Sr. Lab Operations Manager to ensure that any issues impeding the daily operations of the CRF are resolved quickly and accurately. Thus, the Program Coordinator should have some database experience as well as possess good problem-solving abilities, be resourceful and be effective at follow through. Lastly, the Program Coordinator will act as a department liaison facilitating communication between the CRF labs and external vendors, technicians and other campus departments. Thus, it is also preferable to have good communication skills both written and verbal as well as an extremely high degree of competency in MS Office, Excel, Adobe and/or other software computer applications. The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 146 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico’s cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated 13,578 patients in 105,748 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 1361 patients participated in cancer clinical trials, including 544 (40%) patients who participated in clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 102 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $36.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published 930 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 530 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery.
