The College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS) seeks to fill two positions - Library Information Specialist 2 - to join the team working with collections stored in the University's high bay, high density storage facility, the South Campus Repository. The successful candidates will perform an integrated range of tasks and duties associated with accessioning, retrieving, and maintaining library materials housed in the storage facility. The position requires handling, sorting, and storing library material as well as shelving and retrieving material from the high bay shelving units. The work in the storage facility requires moving loaded book carts and lifting trays and boxes The position also involves the use of different integrated library systems to maintain inventory records and specialized software used for interlibrary loan and circulation services. Incumbents will bring library experience and skills, proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, and an interest in learning new skills. This is a term position for up to twelve months of full time employment, renewable for an additional twelve months.

The successful candidate will join Access Services, the team that helps UNM and community library users access information by providing services in the areas of circulation, resource sharing (interlibrary loan/document delivery), technology lending, course reserves, information and research help, and collection maintenance.

The Access Services team is based in three open library buildings on UNM's Central Campus and the repository on UNM's South Campus. This position is based primarily in the repository, with some work regularly performed in Zimmerman Library and has an anticipated 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday schedule.

Incumbents will perform moderately complex and specialized tasks in a team-based setting within the University Libraries. They will perform daily operations in the repository and participate in evaluating, documenting, and improving workflows and procedures. They may coordinate, prioritize, and oversee the work of lower-grade staff and/or students. Regular work assignments will involve all aspects of the workflows used in processing, accessioning, and retrieving material sent to the South Campus Repository. Incumbents will be able to receive training and certification to operate the repository's Raymond lift and will follow safety procedures for the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  1. Experience performing a variety of specialized library tasks that require attention to detail and correctly implementing procedures
  2. Demonstrated skill in the use of relevant or related database and/or library systems in a Windows-based operating environment: Microsoft Office, Illiad, OCLC WorldShare Management System (WMS); CaiaSoft
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  4. Ability to maintain safety and security of a specialized facility and to follow all safety guidelines when operating lift equipment and working in a warehouse environment
  5. Experience providing training and guidance to staff and/or student employees
  6. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively and collegially in a team-based environment within a diverse campus community
