Position Summary | Neurology in UNM School of Medicine plays a critical role in improving the health of all New Mexicans. Our department is the Southwestern hub for advanced neurological diagnosis and patient care. We seek a dynamic individual to join our team as a part-time (.5FTE) Clinic Coordinator to educate the New Mexico (NM) medical community on the genetic disease Cerebral Cavernous Malformation (CCM). CCM is a genetic disease that effects descendants of the original Hispanic population of New Mexico and does not skip generations. Each child of an affected person has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the illness and the symptoms are seizures, neurological deficits like blurred vision, weakness in limbs, and bleeding in the brain. This position is extremely important to educating the medical community of providers and healthcare staff in the State. CCM is currently misdiagnosed and not treated because few providers and medical staff in the State are aware of the disease. This position will work closely with the Nurse Educator in referring suspected affected CCM patients. This position will also support the Nurse Educator in providing education to and answering questions regarding CCM and how it can be diagnosed and treated. Duties and responsibilities: ·Collaborates with Nurse Educator to schedule appoints with medical providers, and patient care staff for educational presentations. ·Assist providers and medical staff from hospitals and clinics in the State of New Mexico with questions regarding CCM educational presentations and materials and on the process for diagnosis and treatment. ·Record and maintain data for the CCM registry and assist Nurse Educator with reports on patients with CCM and efficacy of educational strategies for diagnosis and treatment. ·Reviews referred CCM patient information, assists with patient check in and recording of patient vitals and blood samples etc. for genetic testing or analysis. ·Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications | High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
