Position Summary

TheDepartment of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine at The University ofNew Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine in Albuquerque is seeking an Instructor forMedical Terminology. This will be arecruitment for Fall 2024 semester.
TheMedical Terminology course is an online asynchronous course that will teachstudents to understand medical terminology as it pertains to each body system,including an overview of how the different organ systems function, informationabout various medical disorders, and information about diagnostic and treatmentprocedures. Utilizing graphics and study tips, students will not only learndefinitions and root terms, but also their application in the medical world. Students will be provided with fun and unusualfacts to help remember the medical terminology in unique ways. There will be opportunities to see how medicalterminology is used in the real world through case study assignments. The knowledge from this course will preparestudents for a career as an anesthesiologist assistant through providing aframework to the medical terminology that is used daily. Successful applicants will support the missionof The University of New Mexico, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical CareMedicine, and the Master of Science in Anesthesia program by:

  • Teachingthe asynchronous Master’s level lectures for ANES 501 Medical Terminology
  • Learnand apply emerging technologies and a variety of instructional strategiesappropriate to the needs of the student population and the standards of the discipline.
  • Developingclear syllabi and effective course materials.
  • Evaluatingstudent mastery of skills and competencies required by course learningoutcomes.
  • Participatingin discipline, department, and school meetings and activities.
  • Establishingand maintaining positive working relationships with students, faculty, andstaff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Teachingscheduled in-person and/or virtual classes during weekday hours. Maintainformal office hours.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited academic institution in relevant degree discipline.
  • Medical professional degree (MD, DVM, DO or another pertinent post-baccalaureate degree will also be considered).
  • One year of experience teaching at the college level.
