Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a Laboratory Safety Manager for the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EH&S).
The Laboratory Safety Manager is responsible for leadership and management of the Laboratory Safety Program within the Environmental Health and Safety Department. The Laboratory Safety Program includes the chemical hygiene, biosafety, select agent, and chemical management services programs and is responsible for training staff. This position provides budget planning and projection, strategic planning, and staff supervision and may serve on university committees to represent EH&S. This position will select, supervise, train, and coach faculty, staff, and student employees and provide guidance and expectations regarding performance, timeliness and quality of services and products, and interactions with campus personnel. The Laboratory Safety Manager is part of the EH&S leadership team and meets with other EH&S managers and the EH&S Director for development and refinement of programs to improve and grow the expertise of the department. The position reports to the Director, EH&S.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and five years (5) of related professional work experience OR
Master’s Degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience
Related Experience
Managing an environmental health and safety program and projects with significant responsibility for worker training and both chemical hygiene and biosafety issues, to include responsibility for laboratory safety issues at a university, government facility or industrial facility with laboratory research environments.
Certification and Licensure:
  • State of Nevada class C driver’s license.
  • Ability to meet personal security requirements for approval for access to Tier 1 select agents and to serve as Responsible Official or Alternate Responsible Official as specified by the Federal Select Agent Program (42 CFR Part 73, 9 CFR Part 121, and 7 CFR Part 331) and the UNR Select Agent Personnel Suitability Assessment Program.

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
