These dedicated professionals had trained for a decade in preparation for this moment. But, what once was a small, elite fighting force has become a movement on our campus and beyond. The Global Center for Health Security is the umbrella encompassing all biopreparedness, infectious diseases and high-consequence infections research, education and clinical care at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and its primary clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine. Some of the capabilities and programs included beneath that umbrella: Training, Simulation and Quarantine Center, the result of a nearly $20 million grant from the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Biocontainment Training Center, a high-fidelity simulation center that includes a mock lab and autoclave. National Quarantine Unit, the nations only federal quarantine facility, a 20-bed isolation facility that is the primary destination for people possibly exposed to high-consequence infections.
