STRATEGIC MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

UMKC’s Division of Strategic Marketing and Communications is looking for a collaborative Project Manager/Editor/Writer to develop and edit content for and manage a variety of marketing projects in support of UMKC academic and administrative unit initiatives. Examples of projects include strategic campaigns, magazines, brochures, newsletters, ads and event materials. Strong writing ability and excellent organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills are necessary.

Job Description

The job requires someone who can:

  • Demonstrate strong people skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of team members and clients, building positive relationships.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating the ability to move quickly on short-term needs while making progress on longer-term goals.
  • Write, edit and proofread, keeping in mind client goals and adapting for various mediums and audiences.
  • Extract key facts and relevant material from complex information and various sources and develop compelling, concise and clear material within tight deadlines and in line with applicable style guides.
  • Communicate project expectations and updates with the client and communicate client feedback to other team members.
  • Schedule and lead project meetings and review action items with clients and creative team.
  • Present creative concepts to clients, respond productively to feedback and ask clarifying questions to resolve misunderstandings.
  • Anticipate client needs and make suggestions on alternative or additional projects when appropriate to increase efficiency, respond to budget constraints or meet project goals.
  • Manage print and digital projects as determined by the department manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Shift

This is a full time, benefit eligible staff position. Flexible work arrangement is available.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related area.
  • Proficient in AP style.
  • Ability to prioritize among multiple projects, meet deadlines and remain adaptable in a changing environment.
  • Experience in writing and editing for print and digital within a developed set of editorial and brand guidelines.
  • Magazine experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of producing high-quality print and digital media content.
  • Creative problem-solving ability.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary starts at $50,367 per year commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity.
