Job Description

MU TITLE: Manager I Business Administration

LOCATION: Whitten Hall, Columbia MO

This position will work closely with the Senior Program Director for Extension Health & Human Sciences department managing over $14 million in funding. The position will provide oversight, support, analysis, and monitoring of Extension Health & Human Sciences finances. Assists faculty in daily operations and procedure development, will work closely with PIs to ensure that grant guidelines are implemented. Work with a team to manage operations, post award, and financial transactions are completed accurately and timely. Flexible work arrangements with some remote work may be allowed after a period of in-person training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Management and Oversight of portfolio: Prepare, communicate, and organize information for MU Extension Health & Human Sciences departments; including administering monthly Senior Program Director/Unit Financial meetings, developing, and processing annual budget and reviewing and analyzing managerial reports

  • Maintain a working knowledge of University of Missouri financial policies. Communicate changes to faculty and staff to ensure compliance with these changes. Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers when dealing with difficult and complex financial requirements.

  • Provide leadership and supervision to accounting personnel in a positive and professional manner. Responsible for supervision and evaluation of personnel, including performance reviews, delegating authority, coaching, and training, and taking necessary corrective and disciplinary actions as needed.

  • Assist Senior Program Director, grant administrator(s) and faculty with grant preparation and management including budget and personnel management

  • Represent the department at meetings and committees involving areas of responsibilities.

  • Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.

  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

LEADERSHIP RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

This position reports to the Business and Finance Officer who oversees fiscal operations and human resource management of MU Extension. Direct supervision over a small to medium sized office support staff and student assistants.

Salary

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000/annually

Grade: GGS-09E

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Flexible work arrangements with some remote work may be allowed after a period of in-person training.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired is necessary. A minimum of three years of experience in administrative or fiscal capacity is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel).

Analytical skills and demonstrated organizational skills necessary to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals while maintaining confidential information/situations.

Highly proficient with PeopleSoft. Preferable experience with Workday Planning. Two to three years of experience with University of Missouri fiscal processes and policies.

Experience with developing, monitoring, and analyzing budgets and financial statements.
