Job Description

University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive care to patients presenting to our ambulatory orthopaedic practice sites.  *This position will require travel to the various ambulatory orthopaedic practice sites*

The NP/PA performs examination, evaluation, assessment and interpretation of clinical data to provide care to patients seeking treatment for bone fractures, degenerative joint diseases, and soft tissue injuries. Our Department of Orthopaedics serves as a referral center for patients in Maryland and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently take patient history and perform physical evaluation. 
  • Order and evaluate appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests (including, but not limited to X-ray, CT scan, MRI, and EMG) to help formulate a differential diagnosis and working diagnosis
  • Within the scope of practice, and using shared-decision with patients, create and implement a treatment plan that may include prescription medication, durable medical equipment, injections, splinting and casting.
  • Document H & P, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Refer patients to supervising orthopaedic surgeon, and other health professionals as appropriate.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement meetings

Qualifications

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Education/Training – Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Bachelor's degree required OR a Master of Science degree, with completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Experience – Experience is preferred, but not necessary. New graduates are welcome to apply. 
  • License/Certification – National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification. Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians. OR Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Nursing, and certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of specialization 
  • Must have CRNP - FNP, or PA-C license
