Under general supervision, performs admitting, financial counseling and related administrative activities for admissions. Assists the department of management in assuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the admissions process while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with Medical System staff, referring physicians and patients.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Schedules patients for pre-admission evaluations. Accepts and enters referrals into database. Provides pre-admission and financial counseling, as needed.
A. Performs referral activities for patients including pre-registering patients during intake process. Contacts referral sources to obtain demographic and insurance data.
B. Inputs and updates all pertinent demographic and financial data.
C. Verifies patients’ insurance benefits and compensation coverage to determine necessity for advance deposits. Arranges installment payment plans for patients who are personally paying for services in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
D. Provides patients, family members and referral sources with information pertaining to rehabilitation programs, hospital policies and procedures, insurance requirements, appointment times and patient locations.
2. Investigates and responds to patient inquiries and complaints regarding insurance coverage, payment plans and other financial issues.
3. Maintains an up-to-date census list by coordinating patient admission, discharge, and transfer activity with Nursing staff, as appropriate for assigned area.
4. Processes patient discharges and transfers by completing appropriate paperwork and entering information into computer system.
5. Audits paperwork and files on each admission to assure accuracy and completion of information obtained and paperwork completed. Enters necessary corrections on admission information in computer system.
