The School of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for anticipated part-time faculty openings for the Summer 2024 semester. These teaching positions involve teaching coursework to online graduate nursing students.
Faculty may teach one or more of the following 3- credit, 7-week courses for up to 25 students:
Nursing Research (NUR 604): The appraisal and use of research and other evidence to provide high quality health care, to initiate change, and to improve nursing practice are the foci for this course. Emphasis is on developing relevant clinical questions, searching for evidence, systematic appraisal of evidence, and determining whether and how to apply the findings. Commonly used research designs and ethical principles to ensure human subject protection are examined. Strategies for organizing evidence and implementing evidence-based practice changes are explored.
Faculty responsibilities include teaching and evaluating student performance and maintaining course content. Experience in research and online education is preferred. There will also be required training/orientation meeting(s) prior to the start of the semester as relevant to the course(s) the individual is hired to teach.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees have access to the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s) with their USM Card. USM also offers Part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD), the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.
