The University of Southern Maine’s Tourism and Hospitality Department is seeking a part-time faculty for our Fall 2024 semester, beginning September 3, 2024.

We are searching for an instructor to teach our Food and Beverage (TAH 222) course.

Food and Beverage (TAH 222): covers basic management principles and practices for the food and beverage service industries, such as preparation, safe food handling, budgeting and operations, menu development, human resources, marketing, catering, and event planning. Instructors and guest speakers from industry will offer expertise and guidance on day-to-day management, strategic planning, and other areas of restaurant and food service management.

The Program in Tourism & Hospitality is an innovative undergraduate program that capitalizes on the status of Maine as a premier vacation destination, with diverse culinary, arts, events, adventure, and nature tourism opportunities, and an established and thriving hospitality sector. The mission of the program is to create job-ready graduates who are prepared to be managers, leaders, and innovators in Maine’s world-famous tourism industry.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in a related field OR Tourism and Hospitality industry work experience
  • Prior experience teaching at the collegiate level is preferred but not required.
