The University of Maine Farmington is seeking an energetic, outgoing colleague who shares our vision of lifelong mutual commitment and what a strong community of alums, students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders can do to positively impact the UMF experience.

The Manager of Alumni Relations and Advancement is a member of the team that manages the UMF alumni relations program and UMF fundraising initiatives. All the work relies on collaborations with a variety of on and off-campus partners. This position is integral to friend-raising and fundraising, particularly of alumni, and in support of the realization of UMF priorities.

Essential Duties:

  • Annual Fund
    • Oversee and implement the Annual Fund with consistent messaging through letters, emails, social media appeals, phone calls, and personal visits.
    • Manage all related technology.
    • Acquire gifts through reliable data and segmenting potential donors.
    • Steward donors and assist others in stewardship.
    • Create reports for multiple audiences.
  • Alumni Relations
    • Implement a comprehensive alumni relations program designed to increase alumni engagement and philanthropic support.
    • Work to cultivate, establish, and maintain relationships and communication with UMF alums, and to plan and set up programs and services to meet their needs and contributions in the areas of mentorship, career-related initiatives, and networking.
    • Manage the Alumni Relations budget.
    • Support the development and operation of affinity alumni groups.
    • Plan and implement regional alumni events on a predictable schedule.
    • Manage milestone class reunions in collaboration with the Senior Class Advisor.
  • Campus Partnerships. To conduct the Annual Fund and Alumni Relations, the Manager must:
    • Liaise and collaborate with Athletics.
    • Liaise with Admissions.
    • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on all publications and media related to and appropriate for alumni; maintain the Alumni Relations and Advancement of digital assets in line with UMF brand standards.
    • Serve on the Scholarship Committee.
    • Serve on the Graduation Committee.
    • Serve on the Friends and Family Weekend Committee and other relevant Student Life working groups.
    • Give updates at all BOV meetings.

Reporting Relationships:

The Department of Alumni Relations and Advancement reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management (or equivalent).

Work Location and Travel Requirements:

  • This position can be ahybrid position (partial remote work) or a campus-based position.
  • This position requires frequent night and weekend work / travel.
  • The Manager must be available for frequent travel in Maine and to UMF, in addition to travel to other areas in the United States.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Willingness to constantly engage, reach out, connect, and keep in contact with UMF alums.
  • Willingness to understand, appreciate, support, advocate for, and celebrate UMF alums, and UMF goals.
  • At least 1 year planning programs and / or services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community members (students, faculty, staff, alums, and stakeholders) from marginalized and oppressed groups and life experiences.
  • Ability to focus on the alumni experience in general, and to support and advocate for alums who hold marginalized identities and life experiences.
  • Demonstrated collaborative style of work and leadership.
  • Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with social media and other digital communication platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to make ethical decisions and to exercise principled independent judgment and initiative when necessary, and to do so with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel for work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in alumni relations and / or fundraising.
  • Experience working at a regional public institution of higher education.
  • Experience planning and facilitating programs and services.
  • Experience assessing programs and services.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Supervisory experience
