Position Title: New Iberia Research Center: Clinical Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities:

TheNew Iberia Research Center is a $54 million biomedical research center whichprovides resources for the conduct of basic and applied research requiring theuse of non-human primates aimed at the solution of human health and societalproblems. In addition, the Center servesas a resource to the biomedical community enabling investigators from otherinstitutions to conduct all or part of their research. The NIRC is a Center of the University ofLouisiana at Lafayette. Within the NIRC,the Director, Associate Director, Quality Assurance Auditor and the Chair ofVeterinary Medicine comprise the Executive Team.
Thisposition encompasses processing, analysis, and reporting of diagnostic samplesin compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and applicable regulationsgoverning research in a contract laboratory setting including calibration,preventative maintenance and quality control performance of applicableequipment. Diagnostic disciplinesinclude hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, andurinalysis. Additional responsibilities will include shipping of diagnosticsamples in accordance with applicable regulations. Demonstrate analytic and diagnosticreasoning skills. Perform clinicaldiagnostic and research related procedures with emphasis on recognizing andresolving problems requiring the application of interpretive judgement.

Qualifications:An associate degree with emphasis in Clinical Laboratory Science (or equivalent). A.S.C.P. certified (or equivalent) preferred and Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiner’s licensure (or eligibility) as a Clinical Laboratory Technician is required. Previous experience as a generalist in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory is also preferred. Strong computer skills are a must, as are
skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities. Basic knowledge and understanding of regulations governing operation of a research laboratory or hospital laboratory is preferred.
