Job Description

The Assistant Director provides collaborative leadership with the University Chaplain to facilitate the grant-funded Compelling Preaching Initiative (CPI) and High School Youth Theology Initiative (HSYTI). The Assistant Director will execute the initiatives of the grant programs, providing opportunities for peer mentorship, training, and resources for preachers throughout the Indianapolis metropolitan area for the CPI. In addition to grant initiative responsibilities, the Assistant Director will have some support responsibilities in the ecumenical and interfaith campus ministry programs.

Responsibilities-Assistant Director
  • Execute the components of the grant initiatives (CPI and HSYTI) under the direction of the University Chaplain. 
  • Recruit participants for the CPI and HSYTI and plan and coordinate all logistics for preaching cohorts, city-wide preaching training events. 
  • Recruit, Plan, and Coordinate preaching cohorts each year of the grant (2 cohorts in 2023 and 3 cohorts in 2024-2027) attracting 112 participants over the course of the grant (5 years). This will require primary responsibility of recruiting participants and coordinating communication and logistics for the cohorts each year. The Assistant Director will oversee and leading planning of yearly city-wide preaching workshop/training events and other program initiatives including recruitment for cohort and preaching council leadership and mentors.
  • Collaborate with Indiana Conference Leadership to plan and execute initiatives for HSYTI grant program.
  • Conduct follow-up activities for initiatives, including but not limited to evaluation.
  • Develop a selection committee and process for participant applications, and serve as chairperson.
  • Generate annual reports for the grants, gathering all necessary data.
  • Participate in the ecumenical Christian ministry of Ecumenical and Interfaith Programs in accord with one’s interests and gifts, under the direction of the University Chaplain.
  • Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s).
  • Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
  • Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in employee handbooks and policies.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned.
Qualifications-Assistant Director
  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • Master’s degree in theological field preferred
  • 3 years of relevant work experience preferred
