Description:

The University of Illinois at Chicago, Facilities Management is seeking to fill a Assistant Superintendent of Building Maintenance - Health Care position. Function as a Facilities Management liaison to UI Health by monitoring, coordinating, and supervising the maintenance, repair, and operational support of building systems and facilities, under the supervision of the Superintendent of Building Maintenance.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for building systems and facilities to meet joint commission elements of performance, CMS accreditation conditions of participation, and all federal, state and city codes
  • Coordinate maintenance projects between building users and maintenance personnel to ensure minimal disruption to affected areas
  • Prioritizes maintenance projects involving multiple trades and issues work orders to correct building problems
  • Supervises work related activities of maintenance personnel in accordance with hospital, life safety and infection control policies
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel in the solution of problems related to maintenance of healthcare systems and facilities
  • Conduct periodic building facilities inspections, evaluate the complexity of any needed repairs to determine best solutions, project job costs, and oversee the implementation of approved procedures and repairs
  • Review and sign-off on employee timesheets and overtime requests in superintendents’ absence
  • Participate in interviews for maintenance personnel
  • Participate in announced and unannounced facility and life safety surveys conducted by accrediting and inspection agencies such as the Joint Commission, CMS/IDPH, and OSHA
  • Perform other related duties and participate in hospital compliance/ committee meetings, and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:
    • Coursework in engineering or architecture as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • Work experience in the construction and maintenance of industrial, public, or institutional buildings.
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in the construction and maintenance of industrial, public, or institutional buildings.
  • Additional one (1) year (12 months) of supervisory experience in the construction and maintenance of industrial, public, or institutional buildings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Healthcare experience in a facility management capacity
  • Experience with supervision of union building trades
  • Basic experience with electrical (power, low voltage systems – FAS, nurse call, voice, and data), plumbing, carpentry, and painting
  • Basic project management skills including scheduling, budget, material acquisition, etc.
