Hiring Department: UICOMP-Pediatrics Location: Peoria, IL USA Posting Close Date: 6/10/2024 Description: The Department of Pediatrics of the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Child Abuse Pediatrics candidates for an open position. Consideration will be given to candidates with strong interest and knowledge in child abuse pediatrics. The candidate must hold an MD/DO degree, be BC/BE in Pediatrics and will hold or be eligible for an Illinois physician license. BC/BE in Child Abuse Pediatrics is preferred. As a faculty member, you would be providing clinical care, teaching medical students and residents, research and scholarly activities. We provide the medical sophistication of a major referral center, as well as cultural diversity in a family-oriented community with a reasonable cost of living. The primary teaching hospital of the UICOMP is the OSF Healthcare Children's Hospital of Illinois (CHOI), a tertiary care facility serving a 46 county region with a population base of over two million. CHOI is a major medical facility with 144 beds, 32-bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago and is Magnet Certified. CHOI provides comprehensive services to children, including Level IV NICU and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center. We have 140 Specialists, Pediatrics Residents, Med/Peds Residents and multiple Pediatric Fellowship programs. We are currently in a state of growth and expansion both in terms of staff and clinical space. We have a 26 year history of collaborative relationships with child protective services, law enforcement, states attorneys offices, numerous CACs and other community stakeholders. You have the opportunity to pursue areas of academic or clinical interest in a supportive environment. Responsibilities: I. Administrative Under the direction of the Medical Director, assists in coordinating aspects of the medical evaluation of children referred to the Pediatric Resource Center (PRC), in conjunction with other members of the care team. Serves as a liaison to the Childrens Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center staff and other community medical entities which participate in child protection issues. Participates in teaching and research opportunities with the College of Medicine at Peoria at the medical student, residency, and continuing medical education levels. Provides consultation to medical staff involved in assessment and treatment of potential cases of child maltreatment referred to the PRC. Assists PRC Medical Director with development and maintenance of local and national recognition of the PRC through: 1) participation in local and national professional organizations; 2) familiarity with current literature, theory and practice in the field; and 3) presentations and publications in the area of child protection. Under the direction of the PRC Medical Director, participates in a Quality Assurance Program for the medical service II. Program Development and Clinical Science Conducts child abuse patient clinical evaluations and consultation. Assists in the development of standardized program and protocols to provide optimal patient care in an efficient and cost effective manner. Participates in opportunities for fund raising and support of the program. Assists medical and social work staff in developing new approaches to prevention and assessment of child maltreatment. III. Teaching and Research Encourages and participates in ongoing scholarly activity in the area of child protection. Under the direction of the PRC Medical Director and Executive Director, may pursues local, state, and national funding for research and program development. Assists in mentoring students, residents, and faculty who show interest in child abuse pediatric care. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Eligible for licensure in Illinois. MD / DO degree. Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics. Demonstrated clinical/scholarly interest, leadership, and experience in all aspect of child maltreatment. Preferred Qualifications Board certified/eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics preferred. Fellowship training preferred in either child abuse pediatrics, developmental/behavioral pediatrics, pediatric emergency medicine, or other related pediatric specialty.
