Position Summary
Employee will perform basic, entry-level duties in the care of small laboratory animals and in the
maintenance of the sanitation and equipment of the Biological Resources Laboratory. This position is 90 miles
west of Chicago in Rockford, IL.
Duties & Responsibilities
- False
- Responsible for assisting in the operation of a small laboratory animal facility that houses a variety of_x000d_ laboratory animal species. The position involves direct care and handing of these animals.
- Participates in the care and breeding of animal colonies maintained by research investigators.
- Performs routine laboratory procedures, including the examination of blood, feces and urine for the evaluation_x000d_ of animal health. Performs preventative measures in animal healthcare.
- Documents temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors on daily room log sheets.
- Trained to properly perform euthanasia on animals in accordance with AVMA Guidelines on Euthanasia.
- Inspects specified areas of the facility to determine proper sanitation, operation of equipment and condition of_x000d_ animals. Promptly reports problems with any of these items to the laboratory supervisor.
- Participates in surgical procedures by assisting in the preparation of the operating room equipment and in_x000d_ anesthesia and post-operative care of the animals.
- Responsible for the preparation of special diets and medications.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
