Summary:
This position will supervise the Facilities Paint Shop personnel and operations under the direction of the Construction Superintendent.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties normally required in the trade of painter, including but not limited to prepare surfaces, prepare paint and mix materials properly using appropriate tools, clean and care for all shop equipment _x000d_ and paint-related materials. Load, unload, and erect scaffolding, planks, ladders, and other paint-related equipment as needed. Operate lifts and bucket trucks using appropriate safety practices.
  • Plan, assign, direct, and supervise the work of painters, including extra-help and external contractors. Coordinate all scheduled work with pertinent trades and end users. Record and report labor hours and materials in appropriate applications and files. Review and approve time and leave requests.
  • Prepare cost estimates, select materials, and maintain sufficient material inventory to keep up with daily requests and special projects. Verifies materials requisitioned by employees being supervised. Establish and maintain book of standards to include dates, colors, and locations. Acts as custodian of tools, equipment, and materials used by crew.
  • Enforce and ensure safe working habits and work sites to include use of personal protective equipment, protective barriers and covers to protect surrounding areas and ventilation, safety signage placement & removal, and safe storage and disposal of materials.
  • Glazing, cut and fit glass for new installations and re-glazing, cut and install mirrors. Set glass with rubber seals and or glazing compounds.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned. Perform backup field spraying-striping when required.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program or four (4) years of full-time journey-level painter experience.
3. Five (5) additional years of full-time journey-level painter experience.
4. As required by position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the painting of building interiors and exteriors and the striping of fields and pavements.
Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, regulations and strategies to promote health and safety practices for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology to include but not limited to MS Office Suite, Excel and MS Project.
Skill in time and resource management.
Skill in personnel resources management through motivating, developing, and directing subordinates as they work, identifying the best skillsets for completion of the job.
Skill in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing so others will understand.
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of one’s arms and legs and moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, squatting, grabbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching and handling of materials in the course of completing work assignments.
Ability to stand and perform work duties for an extended period of time in the process of completing projects and/or assignments.
Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color, brightness, and sheens.
